Saggy Breasts Got You Down? A Breast Lift Can Perk You Back Up
Your breasts resisted gravity for as long as they could, but now they’re losing the battle and starting to sag down lower on your chest. And you’re not at all pleased with the effect that their new position is having on your appearance.
If you consider that a breast lift was the number 4 cosmetic surgical procedure in the United States in 2022, you realize that you’re far from alone in your wish to reverse your sagging and drooping breasts.
Here at Cosmetic Surgery Center, Dr. Trent Fogleman and our team have helped many women to get the breasts of their dreams, whether through breast augmentation, breast reduction, or a breast lift. Each of these procedures achieves very different objectives, and we’re going to discuss what we can accomplish with a breast lift here.
Giving your breasts a lift
Also called a vertical mastopexy, a breast lift accomplishes what its name suggests — we lift drooping and sagging breasts back up your chest.
To do this, we perform several steps, including:
- Lifting the breast tissue
- Repositioning your nipple and areola
- Reducing the areola, if desired
- Removing excess breast tissue
- Pulling and suturing the tissue into place
The reason why we often remove breast tissue during a breast lift is because it has stretched over the years and lost some of its elasticity. This stretching creates excess breast tissue that we remove to give you more taut skin around your breasts.
As well, many women have areolas that became enlarged over time, sometimes due to breastfeeding or just simple aging and stretching. If you want to downsize your areola, we do so during your breast lift by trimming away the outer edges.
Another common issue we can fix during a breast lift are uneven breasts. It's not uncommon for breasts to sag at different levels, and we can not only lift your breasts during this procedure, we can make sure they’re even and equally sized.
Why women opt for a breast lift
There are several common reasons why women seek our help for a breast lift. Topping the list are pregnancy and breastfeeding, which can dramatically change the shape of your breasts afterward.
The second reason is aging. Over time, your skin loses elasticity and breasts start to droop down. Not only can breasts sag with age, they can also turn downward so that your nipples are no longer facing out, but pointing down toward the ground.
Lastly, some women opt for a breast lift after significant weight loss. When you gain a lot of weight, your skin can stretch beyond its ability to bounce back, including the tissue that covers your breasts. So, when you lose weight, you also lose volume in your breasts and they sag because of the stretched out skin.
Whatever has you considering a breast lift, rest assured that we’ve got you covered.
