Restore Your Confidence and Comfort with a Labiaplasty
Summer is around the corner, but you’re dreading donning your swimsuit thanks to excess genital tissue. Or, perhaps sexual intercourse with your partner has become uncomfortable because this excess tissue twists and pulls.
These are two of the reasons why nearly 10,000 women in the United States undergo a labiaplasty each year.
Here at Cosmetic Surgery Center, Dr. Trent Fogleman offers the relatively simple labiaplasty procedure as part of our vaginal rejuvenation services.
Here’s a look at labiaplasty and how it can help restore both your comfort and your confidence.
Problems a labiaplasty can solve
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons describes the labiaplasty procedure as one that, “Aims to decrease the size of the labia minora (inner tissues of the female genitalia) so that it is flush with the labia majora (outer part of the female genitalia).”
The reason why this procedure is performed is that it can solve some concerns that women have with large labia minoras, including:
Comfort
A large labia minora can twist and tug in tighter clothing, such as swimsuits and underwear. As well, the tissue can interfere with your sex life, getting caught up during intercourse.
Confidence
Some women find the aesthetics of a large labia minora unappealing, whether naked or in tight clothes, such as yoga pants.
Aside from comfort and confidence, a large labia minora can also pose problems with hygiene, including urinary tract infections.
Meeting your goals with a labiaplasty
There are several ways we can perform a labiaplasty, and we sit down with you to discuss your goals before choosing the best approach.
One of the most common is the trim procedure, which, as the name implies, is a simple technique in which we trim away excess tissue.
We can also approach your labiaplasty with the wedge technique in which we remove a triangular-shaped piece of your labia minora to tighten the overall tissue. This approach allows us to leave the edges of your labia minora in their natural forms.
In either case, we put you under general anesthesia for the labiaplasty, and you should count on a recovery period that lasts four weeks or more. During this time, activities that might lead to friction in your genitalia will be limited, which can range from riding a bike to sexual intercrouse.
During this time, we monitor your progress and give you the greenlight for these activities when you’ve healed sufficiently.
