Rejuvenate Your Eyelids With Blepharoplasty

Are you tired of fielding questions about how tired you must be given your droopy eyelids? Or perhaps sagging lids are making you look far older and less energetic than you feel. If you want your face to reflect the energy, vibrancy, and youth you feel on the inside, a blepharoplasty is just the ticket.

The experienced surgical team here at Cosmetic Surgery Center, under the direction Dr. Trent Fogleman and Dr. Paul Benien Jr., offers a wide range of cosmetic procedures, but few produce the same dramatic effect as a blepharoplasty. In fact, eyelid surgery ranks number five in the United States among the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures.

Explore here how we can open up and rejuvenate your eyes through a quick-and-easy eyelid surgery.

Behind those drooping lids

There are many reasons why your eyelids may begin to droop with time. First, as you age, your tissue gradually loses its structural support — namely collagen and elastin.

This loss of tone can become evident far more quickly around your eyes because the tissue is very thin to begin with, so any changes are amplified and more visible on the outside.

Second, with this loss of tone, the thin layer of fat in your eyelids can redistribute itself, often following gravity downward. This effect is often more pronounced in those who are genetically disposed to heavier upper eyelids.

While eyelid issues are often associated with your upper lids, loss of tone and fat redistribution can also affect your lower lids. More specifically, your lower lids can pull away from your eyes and you can develop bags in the area below your lower lids.

Helping you see and be seen

A blepharoplasty is a procedure in which we open up your eyes again by removing excess tissue, removing fat, and tightening tissue, depending upon your needs.

For example, to tackle droopy upper lids, we make a small incision along the natural crease in your eyelid, remove excess tissue, and pull the remaining tissue more tautly together. If you have extra fat in your eyelids that’s shifted with time, we can either remove or reposition this tissue, as well.

If you’d like us to also address your lower lids and bags under your eyes, we make a small incision along the line of your lower lashes and remove the fat and tighten the tissue.

A great investment of time

One of the reasons why eyelid surgery is so popular is that we can perform the procedure on an outpatient basis, which means you’re free to return home the same day.

There is some downtime as you’ll likely experience some swelling and bruising around your eyes, which typically last for 10-14 days. If you experience any discomfort during this time, you can use cold compresses and take medications to alleviate any pain.

This short recovery time is well worth the effort as you’re able to debut your more youthful, vibrant eyes in two weeks or less after your surgery.
