Now's the Time to Revitalize Your Skin Through Laser Skin Resurfacing
As another year approaches, you take stock of the damage the previous years have wrought. Sagging skin, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven texture and tone — these are all overshadowing your once vibrant skin, and you want to turn back the clock.
The good news is that we can — with laser skin resurfacing.
At Cosmetic Surgery Center, Dr. Trent Fogleman offers a wide range of surgical and nonsurgical procedures that can help you achieve your cosmetic goals. We take pride in offering the most advanced laser technologies available, which includes our Icon® 1540 laser skin resurfacing system.
Here’s a look at why nearly one million people turned to laser skin resurfacing in 2020 to turn back the clock on aging skin.
How Icon laser resurfacing works
With our Icon laser system, we deliver high-precision, nonablative laser microbeams into your skin. The term “nonablative” means that the energy doesn’t harm the surface of your skin, but travels deep into your dermal layers.
Your dermis responds to the laser thermal energy by initiating a mild healing response, which comes in the form of collagen production. Collagen is the most plentiful protein in your body and it’s responsible for the structure and support of most of your tissues. As you age, you lose the collagen production — about 1-1.5% a year starting in your 20s — allowing your skin to wrinkle and sag.
The energy we deliver with the Icon initiates a collagen response that will tighten loose skin from below.
Another great aspect of our Icon system is that it’s a fractionated technology, which means that we create a matrix of microbeam channels in your skin rather than treating the entire area. As your collagen responds to and fills these channels, the network lifts the entire surface of your skin.
While the Icon works well to tighten sagging skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and promote evenly textured skin, it can also diminish any scarring you may have on your face.
The Icon timeline
After you come in for an Icon laser resurfacing treatment, you may experience some redness in your skin, but the downtime is insignificant compared to deep chemical peels or facelifts.
During the weeks after your Icon laser skin resurfacing treatment, your skin rebuilds itself from below, and you’ll notice gradual results. After about 6-12 weeks, you should be rewarded with tighter, more evenly toned and textured skin that’s reminiscent of your skin from years ago.
We do ask that you protect this revitalized skin as best you can against the elements, namely the sun, to prevent the photoaging process from damaging your skin.
To that point, now is a great time to undergo laser skin resurfacing as you can avoid the sun more easily during the short days of winter.
