Facelift — Beyond Tightening Your Skin

When you hear the term, “facelift,” you might assume that the procedure simply involves removing excess skin and pulling the rest taut. While, yes, we do perform this important step, there’s much more to a facelift than simply tightening skin, especially if you want natural-looking results that last long into the future.

Each year in the United States, nearly 75,0000 people turn to a facelift to dial back the years, and our belief is that no two of these facelifts are exactly alike.

At Cosmetic Surgery Center, Dr. Trent Fogleman has extensive experience delivering facelifts that meet the unique goals and needs of our clients.

To give you an idea about all that we can accomplish with a facelift, read on.

Beyond loose skin

Aging affects your face in many different ways, and it goes far beyond wrinkled, loose, and sagging skin, though that is one of the most obvious signs.

Thanks to sun exposure over the years, your skin cells can break down prematurely. This occurs on top of a natural loss of collagen over time — about 1% a year starting in your 20s. Since collagen is a protein that’s responsible for the support in your skin, the tissue starts to thin and sag over time.

As we discussed, however, aging is more than skin deep on your face. The thin layer of muscle below your dermal layers can shift and become weaker. As well, the bones in your face can change — with age, most people experience a loss of facial skeletal volume

As you can see, the forces of aging in your face do extend beyond your skin, which is why you might want a facelift procedure that addresses these other concerns.

Tailoring your facelift

There are many ways to tailor your facelift procedure so we can provide you with excellent results that really go the distance and look natural. Simply pulling aging skin taut is a stop-gap measure and, remember, the skin is weaker and thinner, so it may not hold onto these results for as long as you’d like.

During your facelift, we can not only tighten your skin, but rearrange and tighten facial muscles and release ligaments that are pulling on your skin.

We can also restore youthful volume to your face with fat grafting, as well as implants. With fat grafting, we inject fat from your own body into areas of your face that have lost volume. And, if you’d prefer a more solid solution, we can use implants, such as an implant in your chin or around your cheeks to make up for bone loss in these areas.

As you can see, there are many options that allow us to customize your facelift to address the different ways that aging has affected your appearance.
