Don't Waste Your Money on Ineffective Skin Care Products

Trying to take care of your skin can be daunting, to say the least, given the sheer number of products that all claim to perform miracles for your skin. Unfortunately, many of these products are long on promises and short on results, which means you may be wasting your time and money.

As a cosmetic specialist, Dr. Trent Fogleman understands what truly works for your skin, which is why Cosmetic Surgery Center recommends only top-of-the-line skin care products that can truly make a difference.

In the following, we provide some tips for purchasing the right skin care products, along with our recommendations for manufacturers.

Tips for finding the right skin care products

When you’re faced with hundreds of skin care products, it’s helpful to first understand what your goals are.

For example, understanding your skin type is important. Is it excessively oily? Prone to acne? Always dry? A combination of oily and dry?

Heading into purchasing skin care products knowing your skin type will narrow down your choices considerably.

Next, what are your goals? There are skin care products that are targeted to a wide range of issues, including:

Lastly, bear in mind that simply stating that a product contains a certain ingredient, such as retinol or vitamin C, doesn’t mean that the ingredient is going to be effective, For example, a trace amount of retinol is all it takes to claim that it exists, so you want to look for products that contain enough retinol to make a difference — usually around 0.5% for most skin tones.

Similarly, applying vitamin C to your skin can be a waste of time if it’s not absorbed correctly, so look for a product with L-ascorbic acid (a fancy name for one form of vitamin C), for the best effectiveness.

Products we recommend

We’ve taken it upon ourselves to cut through the clutter of skin care products by offering two lines that are science-backed and evidence-based.

First, we recommend Epionce®, a company that conducts extensive, cruelty-free testing and clinical studies. The end products contain only restorative botanical ingredients that are proven to improve skin, and they’re free from “fluff” ingredients like fragrances, parabens, and sulfates. Epionce also offers complete skin care lines for all skin types that cleanse, correct, restore, and protect your skin.

The second skin care line we recommend is SkinMedica®, which also benefits from years of testing and clinical studies. SkinMedica products effectively tackle anti-aging concerns, sensitive skin, acne, dehydration, and hyperpigmentation.
