Freshen Up Your Look for Spring with Botox

With the bright sun and more time spent outdoors, it can be harder to hide those fine lines and wrinkles that are giving away your age. Many patients benefit from Botox Cosmetic, a popular injectable that can stop wrinkles from forming around the eyes, forehead, and brows. Dr. Benien has helped countless patients rejuvenate their look with Botox. Just a few units of this injectable could be what you need to freshen up your look for the season.

The Benefits of Botox

Botox is still one of the most widely used injectable treatments in the United States. It continues to be a popular choice for men and women who want to freshen up their look without surgery or any downtime. Botox is injected directly into the skin to relax the underlying facial muscles. It can be used to treat skin issues and muscle disorders in some patients.

If you notice a constant appearance of frowning or you have deep lines around the eyes and forehead, you may be a good candidate for Botox. A simple injection can freeze the muscles that are creating wrinkles so the treated area becomes very smooth. Most patients notice results within a week or two of this non-surgical treatment. You can come back to our office every few months for a touch-up treatment.

Rejuvenate Your Look for Spring

Now is a great time to pay more attention to your appearance and prepare your skin for the season. Maybe you’ve noticed fine lines and wrinkles are more visible in the sunlight or when you are wearing very light makeup. If you’re sticking with a beauty regimen of tinted moisturizers and lightweight foundation this season, you may find it difficult to hide those telltale signs of aging. Botox can freshen up your look so you don’t have to wear layers of makeup. You can appear well-rested and refreshed with an injectable that produces very natural-looking results.

Let us help you freshen up your look for spring with non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatments like Botox! Schedule your Oklahoma City Botox consultation with Dr. Benien today.

Why Botox is Becoming Popular With Business Owners

Can facial lines or wrinkles be interfering with your business and preventing you from landing those big clients? While it may seem silly, it may not be far from the truth. In fact, more and more business professionals are beginning to make Botox injections just about as common as a haircut.

A Changing Business World

As companies continue to transition to more of an online presence, they are no longer just a faceless logo. They have their own Facebook pages and Twitter accounts, and many even have their own Instagram. Company employees, especially those who hold senior positions, are finding themselves under the spotlight more often than previously.

Important meetings are now held over Skype and webinars are now a popular way for businesses to keep in touch with their consumers and clients. All of these aspects compose a company’s unique identity – and this is what’s got many business men and women more aware of how they present themselves. It’s no secret that youthfulness has a bigger impact on a company’s success. So, why is Botox becoming popular with business howners?

Botox Finds a Place in Business as Men & Women Adapt

A few years ago, you may have been able to use an old photo of yourself, but that is no longer a viable option with Skype and other video communication platforms. This is not to say that the world no longer values experience or wisdom, but many small business owners or entrepreneurs are finding themselves competing against a much younger crowd.

It turns out that a younger look may be more successful. Today, we associate youthfulness with creativity, passion and charisma, while maturity and age are symbolic of wisdom. However, the new business model is fast-paced and constantly changing, which has brought a much younger generation to the forefront.

Those who suffer from fine lines and wrinkles are now more likely to take steps to maintain a youthful appearance to remain competitive. This used to mean a more stylish haircut or new wardrobe, but with the increasing availability of non-surgical facial rejuvenation, treatments like Botox are extremely popular.

Once upon a time, doing something about those visible signs of aging meant going under the knife or performing a few at-home remedies that never quite worked. With Botox, someone can be in and out of their cosmetic surgeon’s office in less than an hour, looking several years younger. Several board-certified cosmetic surgeons even offer combination treatments that include dermal fillers like Juvéderm along with Botox to achieve an even fuller rejuvenation known as a liquid facelift.

After all, if it really is that easy to look younger, which may help your business, why not try it?

The Difference Between Botox and Fillers

When discussing issues of wrinkles and slowing the signs of aging, we often recommend asking your surgeon about the possible benefits of injectables like Botox or facial fillers. While it’s true that both are treatments designed to fight wrinkles, they’re not the same, and they each fight wrinkles in specialized ways.

How Botox Fights Wrinkles

Botox is like Kleenex – it’s the brand most associated with the product, but not all of that product on the market is part of that brand. The key ingredient in Botox, botulinum, is a neurotoxin that is available under other brands, like Dysport and Xeomin. But no matter what brand you go with, they all attack wrinkles the same way – by treating active, or newer, wrinkles. Facial muscles can play a big part in facial wrinkles, and Botox and its cousins paralyze those muscles in order to achieve subtle changes that reduce the wrinkles, but still allow you to emote and use your muscles.

How Fillers Fight Wrinkles

Fillers, meanwhile (such as Juvederm or Restylane), are more adapted to combat “firmly established” wrinkles – wrinkles with seniority. They can also be used to enhance or alter the appearance of soft tissues, such as adding volume to lips and cheeks.

So, which one’s for you? The best person to tell you that is your surgeon. They’ll be able to tell the difference between old and new wrinkles, and which treatment they feel will yield the best results for you. Book a consultationwith your surgeon now, and one way or another, you can safely say “so-long” to your facial folds.

Could “Frownies” Beat Botox?

Those who have followed the careers of Hollywood starlets like Marlene Dietrich, Raquel Welch, or Joan Crawford, will be familiar with the term “Frownies.” For those not as well-versed in the history of cinema, Frownies are adhesive strips meant to pull back wrinkles on the face, leading to a more youthful look. Actresses like these and many more used them in the golden days of Hollywood, and the product is still around today. But, could Frownies be an alternative to Botox?

New York Magazine columnist Gina Grey recently put Frownies – or more accurately, a more modern alternative, Furlesse – to the test, with herself as the guinea pig. She wore the Furlesse patches for a week as she slept, to see if they could reduce or even prevent visible wrinkles.

Are both wrinkle-removers made equal?

She found that the strips did visibly diminish the appearance of facial wrinkles – so long as she was wearing them. Once removed, her wrinkles reappeared. According to a New York dermatologist quoted in the piece, the patches could potentially prove useful in stemming wrinkles by preventing involuntary facial movements while we sleep, but would take a lot longer than a week to show results.

And since the effects are only noticeable while the strips are worn, it means they won’t do you much good beyond the pillow – unless you’re willing to wear them out on the town. Actresses like Dietrich and Crawford did wear the strips in real life, hidden beneath wigs, but Way says, “unless he’s lost his sense of sight and touch, or is completely clueless, any guy will notice that you have these on.”

If you’re looking for more long-term results that are noticeable in your everyday life, and the idea of wearing adhesive strips 24/7 doesn’t appeal to you, there’s no contest – Botox wins out. Though, as with any cosmetic procedure, it shouldn’t be entered into lightly. Book a consultation with your surgeon before you decide.

FDA Says Beware of Fraudulent Botox

One of the reasons behind the popularity of Botox with patients is how quick and easy the procedure can be to undergo, compared to more invasive alternatives. But Botox is not quick and easy to make – the product is made according to rigorous specifications and undergoes stringent quality control before it reaches the consumer.

Well, the official product, anyway.

The Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning to be on the lookout for counterfeit Botox. “FDA cannot confirm that the manufacture, quality, storage, and handling of these products follow U.S. standards,” said the agency, according to this Reuters article.

How to spot the difference

The product, which the FDA says is being sold under the names “Online Botox Pharmacy,” “Onlinebotox.com” and “Onlinebotox,” is being shipped from foreign sources, and is not approved for sale in the United States. Despite the name, most of these products are being solicited via fax.

Allergan, the makers of Botox, said that besides breaking federal law, the fraudulent Botox’s contents and the conditions of its storage and handling can’t be vouched for, making it potentially ineffective, or worse, unsafe.

Lawmakers are hard at work writing bills that would better track and oversee what prescription drugs are moving through the distribution chain. In the meantime, if you’re interested in Botox, but are wary of counterfeit product, feel free to bring up your concerns with your cosmetic surgeon during your consultation. As a patient, it’s your right and your duty to be as informed as possible before undergoing any procedure. A long-practiced and trustworthy surgeon will be happy to put your fears to rest and make you feel comfortable with the product they make available.

FDA Approves Botox as Treatment for Overactive Bladder

Botox isn’t just useful for making your facial wrinkles fade. It’s also used to treat muscle disorders, excess sweating, and acne. Now, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved it for another use; treating overactive bladder.

Overactive bladder is a condition where the bladder’s muscles flex too much, which results in having to go to the washroom too frequently, or without warning. The FDA has approved Botox for adult patients who cannot use, or don’t respond to, anticholinergic medication. Overactive bladder is said to affect 33 million men and women in the U.S. alone.

The already-versatile Botox adds another medical use to the list

The way Botox works in treating OB is largely the same way it works for your facial muscles; relaxation. By relaxing the bladder walls’ muscles, the bladder contracts less, meaning less urges to visit the water closet. A study conducted on 1,100 patients who suffer from OB found that those who were treated with 100 units of Botox (20 injections, totalling five units each) experienced incontinence nearly two times less a day after 12 weeks than those treated with a placebo.

Patients who undergo Botox treatment for OB can and will need to have the treatment repeated, but the FDA recommends the frequency be no greater than 12 weeks between treatments.
