How Combining Liposuction and a Tummy Tuck Can Optimize Your Results
When combined, liposuction and a tummy tuck can work together to minimize trauma during your body contouring procedure. According to a study published in the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgery, past patients have seen excellent results and very low risks of complication.
The procedure is being called, lipoabdominoplasty. A play on the combination of the two procedures – with abdominoplasty being the medical term for the tummy tuck. The study presented an in-depth look at a five year span of patients receiving the combination technique. The report states, “Liposuction and abdominoplasty, individually and in combination, may be performed safely with appropriate measures to reduce complications by minimizing trauma.”
HOW IS LIPOABDOMINOPlASTY DONE?
Like the popular mommy makeover, lipoabdominoplasty is simply a combination of multiple procedures, in this case, liposuction and abdominoplasty. Typically, patients will undergo liposuction first to remove any excess fat from the areas to be treated. A tummy tuck would then follow to remove any leftover skin or tissue.
When using this technique, you can also avoid the need for drainage during your procedure because the liposuction prevents fluid from collecting under the skin. This means less time spent recovering.
Combining liposuction and a tummy tuck is not necessary, but the results that they offer when paired together have been terrific. Patients often experience quicker recovery, less nausea, and are even better able to keep the tummy tuck scar low and out of sight.
